EXPLANATIONS
New For 2012:
Our prices per kilometer for distance travelled have been static for a number of years while our travel costs have risen sharply due to increases in the cost of fuel and to a lesser extent maintenance. A considerable increase in our "per-kilometer" rates would have been required this year, but rather than take that approach we have instead eliminated all "per-kilometer" charges for distance travelled as of January 1, 2012. Instead, time spent on a job now includes travel time to and from the work site and other travel time directly related to the work. The clock now starts ticking, at one of the two hourly rates above, when we leave our premises on the way to the job and stops when we arrive back at our premises at the end of the job or workday.
For a number of years we have charged for hauling customer-owned goods of 100 pounds or more in our vehicles in the course of a job, by simply doubling the applicable rate per km. This has not changed, and the rate per km. for such haulage is still based on the existing rates per kilometre that we have been using since the late 1990s! We reserve the right to limit weight of goods hauled and/or to decline to haul customer's goods at our discretion.
SERVICE CALL CHARGE
This represents the average cost to us of a visit to a jobsite off our premises. We have found that these costs diminish for various reasons as the amount of work done at the same location increases. Thefore no service charge is applied to a multi-day job at a given location. This cost can be eliminated by bringing the job to us.
CHAIN SAW, SNOWMOBILE AND OTHER SMALL EQUIPMENT USE
Use of company chainsaws and other powered equipment is calculated as "time in hand", that is, from the time the equipment is taken out of a vehicle or night storage area in the bush, etc. to the time it goes back into same. However if the equipment's task is delayed by more than 15 consecutive minutes due to any failure of the equipment, that equipment is then considered to be no longer on the job and neither the equipment's time nor any time spent repairing it is further charged for until it is returned to service.
LABOUR RATES
Since the work we do is highly varied, we have established rates at the two levels shown above depending on the type of job. We have found by experience that this more or less equally represents the value provided as well as representing the amount of long and short term overhead involved in different types of work. Please enquire for labor rates for a specific job.
MISCELLANEOUS CUSTOMER BENEFITS
Trail counter repair: Repairs to
out-of-warranty units are charged at the above hourly rates but
repair cost is capped at $100 per trail counter. A typical repair
job often closts less than this.
Small hydro: We offer one free single-day site
visit per calendar year per customer for the purpose of
evaluating a site for its hydroelectric power potential. The free
day may alternatively consist of a visual check at an existing
hydro installation to establish a general sense of whether the
installation is operating properly and performing to its full
potential.
